It’s that time of year again when summer roles around and we start to make our plans to enjoy the summer vacation. For many families and kids summer vacation doesn’t signal that care free attitude. But instead brings a worry over where their next meal will be coming from without the easy access to school meals. So for the third year in a row farmers throughout the Northwest have joined forces to help fight summer hunger!
Throughout June when you visit your local Fred Meyer or QFC stores simply donate cash as you check out or help fill the collection bins. Even easier you can donate anytime online! My favorite thing about this campaign is that cash donations are used to purchase items that food banks rarely see like milk, cheese and yogurt. Price for ounce these dairy items deliver superior nutrition!
A little friendly competition between myself and Washington dairy farmer; The Farmer’s Wifee: I’d like to remind her that Oregon brought home the trophy last year! Everyone was a winner though as the drive successfully raised food and donations equal to 85,000lbs! Almost a 30,000 pound improvement from the campaigns first year in 2013. Can we see that improvement again in 2015? I think that’s a great goal to set!
So join me! As little as $10 can help feed a family of 4 for 3 to 5 days. Everyone deserves to enjoy summer vacation, even though hunger doesn’t take a vacation!
